Weekly Journal:Week 1:
Week 1 of the internship was very chill. It was orientation week, so I was just getting emails on how the program works, and what I would be doing going forward. To proceed with the program, we had to come up with a strategy to improve the company and help them reach its goal. The first (zoom) meeting that I went to was on January 14. We talked about how we can get big people (like content creators, and celebrities) to work with us on scholarships. I was surprised to hear that the company could have a possible partnership with The Sway House from Tik Tok. Most of those creators have around 10+ million followers, so it’s a big move. We talked about how to market the company, and we agreed that social media was the best way to reach others. Week 2/3: Week 2, I got my first task as an ambassador. I was tasked to create a highlight video from sports teams from my school. After hours of searching, I found the Alameda Dark Meat team’s YouTube page. I had a little trouble downloading the video because it was long, but I eventually got it. I also had to find music that didn’t have copyright, but that was the easiest part. I had some previous experience in editing (thanks to VisCom), so this task wasn’t difficult. It took me a couple of hours to get it done, and I liked it a lot. Meanwhile, on the weekly zoom call, we had a Q and A with former NASCAR driver Landon Cassill. It was very interesting because we were able to get an inside scoop on professional athleticism. Week 4/5: This week, we were tasked with creating a digital poster on Canva. The poster would include information about SportsHi, and the things we do and stand for. On the weekly zoom, calls, we talked about more ways to advertise our organization to students, as well as getting scholarships from celebrities and influencers. Week 6/7: This week, we had to make a TikTok page about anything college or sports-related. The video we created ended up going on the SportsHi TikTok page. I originally wasn't too happy about this just because I didn/t like posting on social media, but it was for the good of the company, so I ended up doing it. To my surprise, the video got over 20k views! This task helped me understand that social media is a new form of marketing. Since everything is digitalized, we have to adjust and form our marketing around it. Because it's easy to get views on TikTok, it makes sense that we would market there. Week 8/9: Task #4 was by far the hardest (and scariest one). I had to personally reach out to influencers and see if they would be willing to collaborate with us. I spent hours researching who I thought would be best for the program. Though I didn’t get any responses, I’m proud of myself for getting the courage to reach out to others. Networking is something that I am going to have to do as a future marketer, so I'm glad SportsHi pushed me out of my comfort zone. Week 10/11: What is an SEO? Don’t worry, I didn’t know until this week. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is a method used to improve a website by increasing visibility when people search for key terms. Our task was to create an inline medium/blog, or leave a review in google apps to highlight the word “sport.” I’ve never heard of this method of marketing before, but it's very interesting. I chose to write the review as my task, and I think I did pretty well. Week 12: This was the last week of the SportsHi ambassador program. I really enjoyed the experience, and I’m kind of sad it ended soon. The last task was to create a LinkedIn post about my experience. On top of a letter of recommendation from the CEO of SportsHi, I was also introduced to a new internship with a non-profit called Women in Sports Tech (where I am currently working). I'm glad that my marketing experience didn’t end with SportsHi! |

Over the past 12 weeks, I was able to witness the influence that social media has on the sports industry. SportsHi taught me a variety of marketing strategies and allowed me to apply them through social media. Because of this experience, I understand the importance that social media marketing has in the sports industry, and I am confident that I will be able to help many student-athletes like myself!
